Deinotherium

I seem to remember reading at some point that 80% of all Deinotherium illustrations depict the animal with its mouth agape.  Nobody knows why this is.  Call me a contrarian, but I can't imagine Deinotherium wandering about with its mouth open unless it had a darn good reason to do so.
